Begin your adventure in Cuzco, the heart of the Sacred Valley and our base for exploring the lost city of Machu Picchu, one of the Wonders of the World and an iconic UNESCO World Heritage site.
Get a chance to learn from indigenous locals and witness the mastery of their crafts at the grand markets. Savior the local cuisine and take part in an authentic Peruvian cooking class. Visit the picturesque salt mines. Get the opportunity to stand at the origin of the Amazon river and be in all of the diverse landscapes – from the snow-capped Andes Mountains to one of the world’s largest sand dunes, rainbow canyons, waterfalls, and more! Day 1
Arrive in Cusco! Explore the local markets while getting to know your new travel family!
We will have a gorgeous Welcome Dinner then Orientation! We will review the week ahead and walk you through what to expect. I'll be handing our printed itineraries and gift bags.
Your host (that’s me! hi!) has created a brief but badass presentation about the history of Peru - the timeline of the land, the importance of the sites we will be visiting, and how this mystical culture has evolved through the ages.
Day 2
During the morning we'll explore the surroundings of Cusco on a hike that takes us through four ancient ruins—Tambomachay, Pukara Pukara, Quinqu Qenqo, and Sacsayhuaman. By midday, we'll reach downtown Cusco for lunch on your own. Afterward, we'll take a guided walking tour, checking out Cusco's top spots like the main square, the Stone of Twelve Angles, and the Qoricancha temple.
This evening will be our dress-up dinner and family game night - filled with laughter and prizes!
Day 3
Today, we bid farewell to Cusco and embark on our journey to the Sacred Valley. Along a picturesque route, we'll first arrive at Pisac, where we can explore the local market filled with crafts, flavors, and a delightful atmosphere. We'll be driven to the Pisac Ruins site, where we'll immerse ourself in learning about various aspects of Inca culture.
We'll venture to the Amaru community, where the women will showcase ancient techniques of working with camelid fibers. We'll enjoy a traditional lunch with the community before continuing our journey with a transfer to Ollantaytambo, a charming town nestled amidst mountains and Inca ruins. Once there, we'll embark on a walking tour of the town.
Day 4
Today, we will visit the breathtaking Machu Picchu site! The day begins with an early scenic train journey to Aguas Calientes, followed by a transfer to the hidden ruins nestled amidst towering mountains. We'll have the morning to discover this historical gem, and after midday, we will be back at Aguas Calientes for relaxation.
This evening, we will be holding space to talk about the ancient astronomical practices of the Inca, modern stargazing, and celestial navigation! Learn how to navigate using the stars under the dark skies of the new moon! This course will teach you the basics of how our ancestors traveled vast distances using only environmental clues and simple instruments. (Segments pending cloud coverage.)
Day 5
Another day to delve into the wonders of Machu Picchu! Today's highlight is a hike to Machu Picchu Mountain, a mesmerizing trail offering breathtaking views of the ruins and the majestic Andes mountains.
After the hike, you'll return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at your leisure before boarding the train for the journey back to Ollantaytambo, arriving in the late afternoon.
We will host a presentation on how ancient communities around the world tattooed and used body modification. Learn what tools ancient Peruvians used, how they made ink, and the spiritual significance they carried! (Optional: Those interested are welcome to participate and receive or give themselves a small, simple tattoo with modern stick-and-poke equipment.)
Day 6
Today marks the beginning of your return journey to Cusco - featuring a guided vehicle tour visiting three highlights of the Sacred Valley! We'll start with a short transfer to our first stop, the captivating ruins of Ollantaytambo — an extraordinary Inca site.
Following this, we'll visit the impressive Moray agricultural terraces and the awe-inspiring Maras salt flats before arriving at your Cusco hotel by late afternoon. During the tour, there will be a stop at Maras village for lunch.
After a full day of site-seeing then a transfer back to our hotel in Cusco, we will unwind by grabbing some comfort food for dinner and hosting movie night on our portable projector! Movie: TBD
Day 7
Today, indulge in the enchantment of Cusco through a Peruvian cooking class! In the morning, a brief 15-minute transfer will whisk you to the vibrant San Pedro Market. Accompanied by a professional chef, you'll select the necessary ingredients for the cooking recipes. Following this, you'll head to the cooking studio where you'll learn to prepare Ceviche, Pisco Sour, and other Peruvian delicacies. Once your culinary creations are complete, delight in them during a flavorful lunch shared with fellow travelers.
Afterwards, a short transfer will take you back to your hotel, leaving the afternoon free for you to explore at your own pace. By the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner and our final group gathering at a local restaurant!
Day 8
After a final breakfast, we will say our farewells!
You can choose to extend your stay, spend a day in Cairo, or transfer back to the airport to head home.
